Middletown, N.Y. Custodian Crowned 2022 Cintas Custodian of the Year

CINCINNATI May 12, 2022 – The winner of the 2022 Cintas Custodian of the Year contest is… Lydell Henderson from Presidential Park Elementary School in Middletown, N.Y.! After nearly 90,000 votes were cast, Cintas Corporation (Nasdaq: CTAS) confirmed Lydell Henderson is this year’s contest winner. Mr. Henderson was honored by over 1,500 students and staff in a surprise ceremony at the school and will receive a $10,000 cash prize from Cintas.

“This contest showcases the unique stories of hardworking custodians throughout the country who deserve recognition for their dedication to their profession,” said Christiny Betsch, Marketing Manager, Cintas. “The community at Presidential Park Elementary School clearly thinks the world of Mr. Henderson, and we’re honored to recognize Mr. Henderson for his achievements.”

School custodians often go above and beyond their regular tasks, including the time Mr. Henderson helped to prevent a student from choking. Without hesitation, he stepped up and performed the Heimlich Maneuver, which may have saved the student’s life. On top of this heroic act, he has been an asset at his school for the last 34 years with unmatched professionalism. His school and community rallied around him throughout the voting process, earning him roughly 30% of the contest’s total votes.

“Custodians play a vital role in schools across the U.S. in helping to keep students, faculty and staff healthy and safe,” said John Barrett, Executive Director, ISSA. “At ISSA, we’re dedicated to providing custodians and other cleaning professionals certification programs to make their jobs easier and more efficient. We’re excited to again offer our training services this year to contest winners and finalists.”

In addition to the $10,000 cash prize from Cintas, the school will receive $5,000 in products and services from Cintas and Rubbermaid Commercial Products, along with a comprehensive training and development package from ISSA, The Worldwide Cleaning Industry Association, valued at $30,000. Mr. Henderson will also receive enrollment in the GBAC Fundamentals Online Course that teaches cleaning professionals to prepare for, respond to and recover from biorisks in all types of facilities, from the Global Biorisk Advisory Council™ (GBAC), a Division of ISSA.

Each of the remaining nine finalists will receive a cash prize of $1,000 from Cintas and free tuition to one ISSA Cleaning Management Institute (CMI) training event, valued at $1,500.

“This is an exciting moment for Mr. Henderson, and we’re proud to take part in recognizing his achievement as the nation’s best custodian,” shared Robert Posthauer, Sr. Vice President Sales and Marketing, Rubbermaid Commercial Products.

CINCINNATI — [April 27, 2020] –Cintas Corporation (NASDAQ: CTAS) crowned Howell Beasley of Albertville Kindergarten & Pre-K the 2020 Cintas Custodian of the Year®. Beasley will receive a $10,000 cash prize and his school will receive $5,000 in products and services from Cintas and Rubbermaid Commercial Products, along with a comprehensive training and development package from ISSA, The Worldwide Cleaning Industry Association, valued at $20,000.

“The Cintas Custodian of the Year contest shines a spotlight on hardworking custodians and gives them the recognition they deserve, which is especially important amid the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Sean Mulcahey, Cintas marketing manager. “It’s clear that Howell is a role model for these children and goes above and beyond to ensure students and staff always have a clean and safe learning environment.”

Howell is an integral part of the Albertville Kindergarten & Pre-K community. His unwavering dedication and pride in his work has left a positive impact on students past and present for nearly 40 years. As the first person to always lend a helping hand, the Albertville Kindergarten & Pre-K community returned the favor by earning Howell nearly 30% of the votes to crown him the 2020 Cintas Custodian of the Year.

“Custodians are the heart and soul of every school, and it’s important to recognize the hard work that goes into maintaining healthy schools,” said Michael McDermott, president, Rubbermaid Commercial Products. “We’re thrilled to recognize Howell and the finalists with this incredible achievement.”

Each of the remaining nine finalists will receive a cash prize of $1,000 and free tuition to one ISSA Cleaning Management Institute (CMI) training event, valued at $1,500. “Custodians go the extra mile by maintaining a healthy environment for students and staff, especially throughout the COVID-19 pandemic,” said John Barrett, executive director, ISSA. “They’re on the frontlines ensuring that all schools are safe to return to, and we are honored to be a part of this contest to highlight Howell along with other custodians across the country.”

Due to social distancing restrictions, Albertville Kindergarten & Pre-K found a creative way to announce the news to Mr. Howell (as he’s lovingly known as around the school). Under the guise of a summer preparation and maintenance cleaning meeting, Howell was met by the principal and superintendent at the school and informed of the news with the faculty and staff watching via video conference.

Scotts Valley, Calif. Custodian Crowned 2019 School Custodian of the Year

CINCINNATI – [May 15, 2019] – And the winner of the 2019 Custodian of the Year contest is… Aristeo Flores! With over 278,600 votes, Cintas Corporation (NASDAQ: CTAS) today crowned Aristeo Flores of Scotts Valley (Calif.) Middle School the 2019 Custodian of the Year. Aristeo will receive a $5,000 cash prize and his school will also receive $5,000 in products and services from Cintas and Rubbermaid Commercial Products.

“The Custodian of the Year contest celebrates the many ways custodians make a difference in our schools,” said Jillian Bauer, Cintas Marketing Manager. “It’s clear from Aristeo’s win and the support that he’s received from day-one of this contest, that he is not only loved by his school, but by the community as well.”

Known for his warm, kind smile, Aristeo is an integral part of the Scotts Valley Middle School community. His gentle demeanor, sense of humor and hard work has left a positive impact on students past and present for the last 17 years. So when the opportunity came for his town of 12,000 to show him just how much he means to them, they swept the national contest and won with more than 30 percent of the vote.

During a surprise award presentation ceremony at the school, Aristeo was met with 530 overjoyed students who thought they were attending a pep rally. Complete with T-shirt cannons, giant balloons, a staff dance and an ice cream truck with treats for the whole school, it was clear why the 73-year-old isn’t ready to retire – his love of the students.

In an emotional speech from his son Miguel, Aristeo was described as someone who’s been an underdog his whole life. “My dad is an immigrant from Mexico who came here for the American Dream. Now I know why at 73-years-old he never talks about retiring. I get it – this is why he doesn’t retire. You guys are the reason he doesn’t retire.”

“Aristeo represents the best-of-the-best with his attitude, spirit and commitment to maintaining a healthy school for each and every student,” said Michael Halak, President, Rubbermaid Commercial Products. “We’re honored to recognize him today for his achievements and hope to bring a smile to his face like he’s done for so many others throughout the last 17 years.”

Nine contest runners-up will be awarded a $500 cash prize. They will also receive a $1,300 prize package from Rubbermaid consisting of cleaning tools and products.

Cintas’ Sixth Annual Custodian of the Year Contest Kicks Off

CINCINNATI – [Feb. 4 2019] – Do you know a custodian who works tirelessly to keep their school clean and safe for students, staff and visitors? Starting today, Cintas Corporation  (NASDAQ: CTAS) is accepting nominations for its sixth-annual Custodian of the Year contest to honor the best-of-the-best amongst school janitors and custodians. Nominations for the $10,000 prize package will be accepted online at www.cintas.com/BestCustodian
through March 4, 2019.
